Check the practical stack before testing
ChessZCam is designed around Android detection, a Windows controller and a browser overlay. Venue conditions still matter.
Intended stack (beta)
- Phone: Android with a rear camera that can frame the full board
- PC: Windows machine for the hub / overlay URL
- Broadcast tools: OBS Studio (Browser Source) or vMix (browser input), and similar tools that accept a browser URL
- Board: Standard wooden/plastic tournament set (good contrast, stable pieces)
- Network: Same LAN / reliable Wi‑Fi or hotspot between phone and PC
Not primary targets (yet)
- iOS / iPhone as the detection device
- macOS as the primary hub PC
- Multi-board federation installs that replace electronic-board fleets
Demand may change the roadmap — see Roadmap and Feedback.
Environment checklist
- Even lighting; avoid harsh shadows and glare on glossy boards
- Camera angle that sees all 64 squares without players’ hands permanently covering the view
- Stable tripod — bumps cause sync work for the operator
- Test stream the night before a public event
